Draught at the brewery on 3/1/14
Very murky caramel brown body has a medium-sized off-white head atop. Retention is moderate. I donโ€™t understand how the appearance varies on the beers in the series so greatly. I had assumed they were the same malt bill with the differing single hop, but that dosent seem to be the case, as this one is much darker.
Very interesting mix of lime, apple, cherry, lychee, apricot and so on in the nose. Some earthier, lightly sweet caramel malt notes and no way to differentiate esters from hop aromatics. Quite perfumey and piquant yet not overly acidic. Strange hop, but pretty interesting and a nice change of pace from the beat-you-over-the-head-with-resin that was galaxy and to some degree cascade.
Very comforting, nearly chewy texture, probably no doubt in part due to the thick amount of sediment in suspsension. More of the unique flavor with the unusual interplay of caramel, apricot, peach, apple and some lightly acidic almost over-ripe fruit notes. More maltiness on the finish, but the bitterness is there too, leaving it pretty well-balanced. Somewhat more watery than the previous two Iโ€™ve had, lending a bit lighter of a body. A bit of bland, nutty yeastiness, dirtiness/earthiness from all this sediment. "Rustic", you might say.
