Dark brown, almost black body with thin head. Malt and chocolate aroma. Roast malt and chocolate in taste with a long finish

Golden-brown, medium head. You don’t quite get liquid bread but there’s a really nice dark malt complexity to this - caramel, toffee, bit woody, and has an off-dry finish. Properly balanced and complex example.

Draught at Portland Craft, Vancouver
Dark mahogany color. As often happens for a Doppelbock, the aroma is too mild, but it has a quite good caramel depth, some malt flavor, mild Lager esters, moderate sweetness, and roasted nuts in the final. Good beer for a difficult style, balanced.

On tap at Portland Craft, pours a dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted nuts, red fruits and light toasted caramel. Flavour is very malty, with lots of dark red fruits, toffee, toasted caramel and some nuttiness. Sweet, but nowhere close to cloying. Very nicely done.

Tap at Cap Tap. Pours dark ruddy brown. Warm treacle aroma. Med body at least. Flavor is sort of mild treacle, brown sugar and some herbaceousness. Overall it’s malty and warming. Pair with rich over chocolated brownies (lucky me in being in Cap Tap at just the right moment - stout based chocolate brownie - super yum). But the food won’t affect my rating. It’s a nice beer, and would be great for an evening near the fire.
