Previously we brewed a beer using buckwheat instead of wheat.
We thought it would be fun to try to eliminate all of the glutenous grains this time around! This beer contains no barley or wheat but instead is brewed using rice, corn, buckwheat and oats.
While we cannot label this as a gluten-free product, we are happy to report that the gluten content was measured below our lab’s lower detection limit of 5 parts per million.

On tap at Small Pony, pours a cloudy yellowish blonde with a small white head. Aroma is dry and earth, showcasing the buckwheat I guess, with plenty of oak and a bit of wild yeast. Flavour is very buggy and oaky, with lots of wood from the barrels, complex wild yeast, and an earthy graininess from the buckwheat. Complex and well-balanced, with lower acidity than usual for Small Pony. Very good.
A hazed blonde ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with light Brett, horse blanket, light ground cherry, light lactic notes, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with light ground cherry, light lactic notes, light Brett, very nice and smooth. Bottle at brewery.
