One Hop This Time: Topaz

Freshly canned and drunk 7/17/16.
Thoroughly hazy/soupy, drab lemon skin and brass body is topped by a large white head showing strong retention.
Had this one following a Vicinity and a Launch and while I don’t think Vicinity is Trillium’s strongest offering, I do think this batch of launch was killer and this blew both of them out of the water by a good margin.
Absolute juice heaven with a dank, spicy, deep marajuana-like character. Tangerine, key lime, lemon and plentiful pineapple and mango. Everything you want from a New England IPA, with none of the overly sweet juiciness or resin/grapefruit/alcohol. Malts show light honey and biscuit behind the hops, but are otherwise kept out of the picture. Clean, exceptionally bright and intensely aromatic.
The flavor fails to disappoint, with a soft, malty texture and a fine carbonation. Dank notes combine with juicy pineapple-mango and a moderate bitterness that perfectly balances. Watermelon bubble gum, ripe nectarine and apricot and lingering, fresh, zesty orange juice.
Damn. Almost went out and bought more of the stuff, but it was late. Maybe their best hoppy beer to-date? Right up there with the best batches of morph and whirlpool, I think. Really fucking good. Go Nightshift. Who knew topaz was this good??
