Draught at the brewery, 7/16/16.
Full pours in RI, hooray! A great beer for a full pour, being nice and sessionable.
Indeed tan in color, with a bit of glassiness and high clarity. Off-white head atop is medium-sized and shows moderate to moderately strong retention.
Very spicy in the nose, with herbal and very light floral suggestions. Definitely not what I associate with El Dorado, but then, who knows how much was used in the dry hop or whirl. Some light orange rind, black pepper, lemon and a hint of grapefruit. Malts show brown bread, very light caramel and vanilla-cream. No alcohol or flaw.
Malty up front, with light treacle-tinged brown bread, vanilla and honey softening things and tons of peppery, very lightly citric hops on the finish. Good attenuation and tight carbonation with a malty-soft texture though some hardness from the specialty malts. Lingering notes of orange peel, black pepper and even some herbal tea suggestions. Quite drinkable. Liking the pilot releases. Last time I was here it was a fairly traditional pilsner and now this. Keeps you on your toes....
