Draught pint at the brewery, 12/12/15.
Clear brass-bronze colored beer has a slight chill-haze and a white head atop that shows moderate to strong retention.
Grainy, slightly cereal-like malt notes in the nose give a fairly accurate feel to the aroma. Some melon, hard water/minerals and a touch of vanilla round out the nose. Not brimming with aromatics, but then, most to-style bitters aren’t. No alcohol, or flaws, importantly.
Moderately sweet notes of honey and light corn mix with a moderately-strong melon flavor, as graininess dominates the finish. Not too sweet, though it could use a touch less, so much as it is thick and dextrinous. Light vanillin, corn and melon linger on the finish, with lots of hard water flavors and a strong breadiness. Fairly ample carbonation. There’s a lot of body, but not so much flavor. Beer kinda wears on and gets somewhat tiresome by the end of the pint. Not all that sessionable on account of the breadiness, sweetness and dextrinous texture. But it’s mostly clean, so that’s heartening. Would be really nice on cask, I bet.
