Draught at the brewery, 3/22/17.
Good clarity to this blonde-golden, well-carbonated beer. Mid-sized white head atop shows moderate retention.
Light cereal from the spelt, in the nose mixing with dry white and black pepper phenols. Low on anything you don’t want; bubble gum, peach, banana, clove and yet not masked by any great quantity of American hops. Aromatic and with pleasant apple, nectarine and lemon-like fruity esters. No alcohol or flaw.
Bright and crisp with an outstanding attenuation. Almost champagne-like with plentiful black pepper and some softer, cereal like spelt notes. Bits of bitterness on the finish from the lightly citrusy hops. Great to see them doing a non-mixed ferm, not-overly-hopped saison. Engaging carbonation, good attenuation, no alcohol or flaw.

Poured into a tulip, the appearance was a soft semi-cloudy burnt yellow color to it, some glossiness. Half fingered white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Messy semi-clingy lace.
The aroma pulls together some sweet grains over some subtle grapefruit pulpy sweetness. A touch of zest orange peel and then some white pepper.
The flavor ends up semi-sweet through the grapefruit pulp and orange peel. And then pops over to some bitterness through the orange peel. White pepper ends it all. Crisp semi-dry sort of pulpy aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation felt good. ABV felt as intended.
Overall, pretty good saison that I wouldn’t mind having again preferably in the Summer or perhaps Spring.
