Cask at the Freeport location, 3/10/17.
Odd ruby-amber body has just a touch of haze to it. Off-white head atop is thin and shows moderate retention.
A strange mix of apple, strawberry and melon esters with pineapple and coconut?? I guess that must be the mix of wheat and yeast, though there doesn’t look like there is hardly any of either in suspension here; not that that’s a bad thing. Fruity, though, with some orange and red grapefruit notes, though I’m hard-pressed to find any real strong tropical notes. Clean otherwise, though this pina colada-character is slightly off-putting.
In the mouth it’s fairly soft, with engaging, low carbonation. Fruity and lightly malty, though not overly sweet and seemingly quite well-attenuated. Strawberry, cherry and pineapple mix with light honey and a touch of sharp, resinous character on the very estery finish. Not quite sure what to make of this. It’s like they were making a Gritty-style NE IPA but then it’s also served bright on cask. Lot of contradictions here, but the end-product is pretty drinkable though the strong pineapple and odd sharpness on the finish needs to be toned down a lot.
