Draught at Salty Pig, 3/4/17.
Dark, cola-ebony with a good clarity and small, tan head atop showing moderate retention.
Very lively coffee mixes with fruity chocolate and sweet vanilla in the nose as earthy notes and a more dry roast take over on the end. Quite aromatic and yet not dominated by the coffee, thankfully. No alcohol or flaw.
Straightforward but very flavorful, with an almost juicy character to the coffee as prunes, vanilla and dark chocolate create a very boisterous flavor profile. The highlight of the beer is the soft, oily-to-silky malt texture that is soft and supple yet very dry and attenuated. In concert with the engaging carbonation, it keeps the beer very drinkable while allowing the dark malt and coffee to shine.
