The second in our New Years release series. A consideration of what we have brewed in the past and what we are interested in moving forward. This year’s batch is a farmhouse ale layered on house cultures. Restrained funk and acidity in a cold fermented and conditioned farmhouse ale for a surprisingly clean character.

We know this style is not really a thing. But neither should 2017 be.

Packaged January 3, 2017.

Draught at Picco, 1/21/17 and again at Pastoral on 2/22/17.
Hazy lemon pulp with maize and gold accents, topped by a small but dense, white head.
The nose gives off plentiful, farmy, rustic house yeast character with just a touch of Brett and tons of varied mineral, sweat, cereal, hay and other various funky goodness. Not lactic, however, in the least and very light on the hops which add a bit of grass, herbs and light citrus.
Cereal, honey, yellow fruits and dry, long, biscuity malts on the end with low but engaging carbonation and high attenuation yet no lack of supple, malty and wheat/oat textures. Just a hint of tartness but stronger is the gently balancing hop bitterness which also adds light citrus and grass. This is just a no frills, thoroughly rustic saison with Kent Falls house yeast character to the max. A fitting Anniversary beer indeed.
