Dark mahogany with light cola tints and a medium-small, dark beige head showing moderate to low retention. Good clarity.
Light pumpkin character seems quite authentic, not just a bunch of pumpkin pie spices. There’s a very strong caramel-chocolate character that has earthiness, light acidity and a touch of sugar. Contrasted nicely with the light barrel aging which provides spice, liquor and just a hint of toastiness. They didn’t list the abvs of their gruits, but I assume this one to be somewhere around 7 or 8. You can’t tell, and it’s quite clean, with only light licorice and sage-like herb/spice notes adding complexity.
Nice and dry in the mouth but with a chewy, treacle-like character that must be the herbs/spices mixing with the malts. Light chocolate, bourbon-like notes and a bit of toasted oak with a moderate pumpkin flavor and vanilla and caramel sitting on the finish, softly. Great balance and good flavors without being overdone on barrel, pumpkin or spice. Lovely.
