Draught at the brewery, 10/21/16.
Lightly hazy, glowing auburn-copper body is topped by a good-sized, well-retained, off-white head.
Lots of red fruits in the nose; cherries, apples, strawberries with a little bit of papaya and lots of lemon. Nice mix of citrus, tropical fruit and green, leafy, dank notes. There’s a bit of resin here, but it’s not obnoxious. Quite estery, though, with some light warmth from the alcohol. The deep auburn color no doubt implies some specialty malts and they are certainly felt here, as there is plentiful grain character. Quite lacking on the malt sweetness, it would seem, from the nose.
Extremely dry, with a hard, specialty malt-laden texture with lots of graininess. Stewed hop bitterness and finally lots of fruity esters, tropical fruit and citrus from the hops and lingering warmth and bitterness. Needs a good deal more malt suppleness, as the texture is very bare/hard and it doesn’t balance the acidity. Carbonation seems pretty on point; a medium amount and engaging.
