Draught at Standard Tap, 8/26/16.
Light blonde, with a deeper trace of copper-golden. High clarity and a medium-sized, white head atop showing moderate retention.
Very straightforward malts in the nose add light hay, honey, whitebread and are augmented by a smattering of light esters and phenols ranging from light pepper to soft strawberry-apple. Nothing offensive here nor anything that shouldn’t be here (bubble gum, cotton candy, peach, banana, clove) and no alcohol nor flaw. Extremely simple but competent.
In the mouth it is again very simple, with soft, sweet malts adding honey-vanilla, whitebread and just a touch of graham cracker. Light black pepper, a touch of plaster and mild, fruity esters give a meaningful Belgian character which is enjoyable, with engaging carbonation and a malty texture. But, it’s just a shade too sweet and lightly sticky, taking away from extreme drinkability, which is all this style wants.
