Draught at Lulu's, 1/3/18.
Thoroughly hazy-to-soupy, deep bronze-golden with cantaloupe-like hues and a beige head that is full and shows moderate-to-strong retention.
Big wallop of pine and papaya in the nose seems to imply this is going to be a pretty stiff one. Heavy grapefruit, orange juice and lime-mango round out the NE IPA characteristics, but the malts are thick and rich, adding honey and caramel to the already seemingly overdone, tangy, intensely juicy citrus, pine and papaya.
In the mouth it's too twangy, with heavy bread, sour-like pine, intense grapefruit, orange juice, lime and sweet mango. Rich malts coat the tongue while bitterness runs unrestrained throughout leading to a pine-saturated, heavily malty, almost syrupy finish. It's "fun", I guess; certainly packed to the brim with hops and malt, but there's too much pine, twang, pure orange juice and rich, sweet malt for my liking. Soft, malty texture with medium attenuation and low but engaging carbonation. Alcohol noted, though not heavy or hot.
