Antioch is a blend of ales lying somewhere between the Flemish Red & Oud Bruin styles. Historically it would have been referred to as a “provision beer”, meaning it was stored and aged to allow the flavor to develop.
Blend #1 - A blend of several different ales that were aged under different conditions: About 1/3 is a blend of red ales double matured in Sangiovese casks while the other 2/3 comes from various ales matured from 6 months to 3 years in red wine barrels.

Dark ruby-magenta with a strong chestnut overtone, good clarity and a beige head that fizzles to a ring fairly rapidly.
Strong red wine in the nose also picks up acetic and lactic acid from the bacteria, with light bread, chocolate and balsamic vinegar behind it. While it's a far cry from OEC's early days of massive acid bomb dark sours, the red wine is rather prominent here and it's still got it's fair share of acetic acid.
In the mouth it's slick, but with ample, engaging carbonation and a good deal of sourness, wine-like chalkiness and lingering acetic character. Raisin, caramel, punchy vinousness and lingering acidity all keep the palate on its toes. There are some very nice flavors, of course, but I think it's just a bit too forceful and acidic.
