Draught at the brewery, 7/30/17.
Rich, warm, honey-toned orange-golden, clear with a well-retained, white head.
Bread and butter in the nose is joined quickly by big, estery, fruits. Apple, strawberry, pear, etc...which are in turn overtaken by spicy, strongly floral and marmalade-like hops. Lots of black pepper and candied orange lingering. Whereas the vastly overboiled bittering hops in the Senatah are exacerbated by the extremely light, sparse malt base, here at least there's much more plentiful malt to "balance".
To that end it's got great English characteristics; bread, butter, strong fruitiness with floral and spicy hop notes but it continues and builds with too much astringent, harsh resin. Dry and malty and again clean with ample, engaging carbonation. Pity about the hop treatment in the IPAs.
