Draught at Canary Square, 6/19/17.
Moderately hazy, tangerine/orange juice-colored beer with a small, off-white head showing moderately-low retention.
Very soft in the nose, quite a contrast to the prior entry in the series which was more or less just a noseful of lactic acid. While there’s still lactic acidity here, it’s much more integrated and mild, allowing the fruity, lightly spicy and floral hop notes to shine, creating a very citrusy aroma. Light wheat/biscuit behind it all is very sparse, but thankfully the beer requires very little malt balance. Tangerine, biscuit and lemon linger gently with no alcohol or flaw.
Lightly tart in the mouth with low but fairly engaging carbonation and a soft, wheat-driven texture. Light hop bitterness mixing with spicy and juicy tangerine and lemon-like notes creates an enjoyable enough flavor that yields actual orange flavor, gently, on the finish. The theme here seems to be soft, gentle, mild and fuzzy, which is all enjoyable, and while it’s completely monotonously citric, the orange and tangerine pulp/juice character is quite enjoyable as well. That being said, I’m getting very little beer character here and more of just a lightly tart, hoppy, tangerine juice.
