Draft at the brewery, 1/15/19. Good clarity, dark and with a tan head that fades steadily to a ring. Licorice, dry fudge and dry toffee give an unexpected nose. Tootsie rolls come to mind but it's not sweet or even rich. Light alcohol, lactic notes and more peppery, anise-like notes see to that. Soft, fudgey-sweet and with strong pepper and roast on the end to bring back some balance. A bit disjointed and tootsie roll-like with more alcohol sharpness than Id like. Low, engaging carbonation and tons of peppery-anise lingering.
