Can (2/21/24) pour from Andover Classic Wines. Opaque black with light sparkle, fizzy head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is sweet, earthy malt and cacao. Alcohol in the background (less as warms). Taste is strong, sweet malt/sugar with roasty, earthy, molasses character. Hint of dark fruit in background. Smooth, thick texture w/medium body, soft carbonation and finish as taste with dry, lingering light bitterness. An imperial stout with candy sugar--sweet? Naaaahhhh! As expected but cacao is muted.

From a pint can. Pours a dark cola with a scant tan head. Aromas are of burnt brown sugar. Flavors are sweet cocoa.

On draught at the brewery, 1/5/19.
Dark ebony, tan head quickly to a ring. Undetermined clarity.
Nose is fruity and shows candied orange, caramel, darker baker's chocolate and light raisin. Vanilla and light alcohol mix with stronger roast notes as chocolate lingers long. Bready and raisiny, as well.
In the mouth it's well-attenuated, malty and fairly soft though with some specialty malt bread/hardness and lots of molasses, treacle and fruity cacao. Some very strong, borderline sharp, fruity esters linger with light alcohol warmth and long bread and red fruits. It's like a barleywine in disguise. More roast and chocolate emerge as it sits with cacao, vanilla and caramel. Gets a bit monotonous with the heavy fruit, bread and cacao character but is well-attenuated, engagingly carbonated and pretty well-done all around.
