Bomber drunk 5/27/18.
Dark crimson-violet with deep auburn hues, good clarity and a small, off-white head showing moderately-low retention.
Very easygoing nose belies the spirits this beer came in contact with and even the barrel, showing no toast nor any aggressively boozy notes. Light Brett acids add yellow fruit, lime and leather, as hints of toffee and tart cherry deepen things while honey and biscuit brings up the rear, balancing nicely.
In the mouth it's tart, yet soft and voluptuous, with plentiful tannin to counteract any big acidity. Very fruity, with honey-like malts and biscuit for texture, while tight carbonation and good attenuation round out a very enjoyable, flavorful, balanced picture. Surprisingly low on any bourbon/whiskey character, with just light vanilla and spicy phenol in its place. No maple noted either.

Sample at EBF, Boston. Color is murky brown with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Dry fruits, berries, wood, bourbon, dryness and malts. Very complex sour. Reminds me of rodenbach best sours.
