Bottle shared by friends. Dark chestnut with small beige head. Loads of heavy caramelized sugar, some bourbon, dark fruit, some light oak. Clean, elegant and flawless balance.

Bottle thanks to William. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong bourbon, dark fruit, wood. Slick body, caramel, raisin, wood, bourbon, nice sweetness, enjoyed this.

Brewery bottle pour, 4/7/22. Clear mahogany with lighter tan hues. No head. Smells like oxidation. Reminds me of opening a Bells Batch 6000 from 2004 in recent months. Some nice port-like, candy sweetness. Light alcohol dryness, raisin-fig-prune and more madeira-like oxidation lingering prominently. Port and cognac notes sing alongside a zippy, tinglingly-carbonated, pleasingly syrupy body full of date and honey-like sweetness. Phew, this is much, much, much better than the nose. Great acidity and sweetness balance, wonderful complexity and a comforting texture pushed to the limit by the sticky sweetness but still remaining in balance, especially for a sipper. Didn't love the aroma, though maybe I'm just burnt out on oxidized barleywines, but the flavors of the barrels definitely improve upon the magnificent base beer.
