A smoked spelt lager brewed in collaboration with our friends atHindsight BBQ in Waterbury, CT. We delivered our very first keg to Jeff and co. and have long talked about a true collaboration. Besmoke is the result. Jeff took some Connecticut grown spelt and custom smoked it for us over oak and applewood in his new pit. Clean, balance smoke and a friendly nuttiness.

Draught at Row 34, 7/28/21.
Bright, strawberry-tinged copper, good clarity and an off-white head atop that is small and shows modest retention.
Nose is quite delicate for a smoked beer, reminding me of Schlenkerla Helles. Honey-like malts, light mineral and very minimal woodsmoke with hints of caramel/toast and a touch of herbal/peppery hops for a bit of brightness. No alcohol or flaw noted.
Soft and malty with great attenuation but still a lingering caramel-honey-like sweetness. Soft, delicate smoke gently works its way in. Tight, low carbonation and no flaw or alcohol noted. Excellent.
