Can, brewed 2019, drunk 11/24/22. Ebony-to-mahogany, undetermined clarity, Large, tan head, solid retention. They must have put a LOT of apples and quinces in this thing to get it to come through over this imperial stout, especially as it's probably been sitting in the can for a long time too. But it's done well, and nothing comes off dominant, nor syrupy/sweet, with a pretty interesting/unique aroma profile. Quite black malt-forward with bitter licorice and oily roast, maybe a hint of alcohol? Apples and quince galore. Oh wow, that's certainly weird as all hell, but incredibly innovative and about as unique a beer I've had in a while. The apple cuts the texture somewhat and the thick, salty, oily, roasty, licorice-and-burnt-raisin flavors are balanced by the lighter, fruity apple/quince. Maybe not the most harmonious thing ever, as there's definitely some clashing between the light, fruit, crisp apple and oily, bitter, dark, salty roast, but it's still really well-done to be enjoyable and drinkable. I'd guess 9 out of 10 times an attempt like this would be disgusting.

Draught at Torst: pours black with beige head. Aroma is chocolate, booze, some fruitiness. Apple and quince is more pronounced at the end and is pretty distinct giving this a unique flavor. Pretty carbonated body. Weird.
