Althea is a modern American Pale Ale. Unlike many pale ales, Althea is low on bitterness, yet massively hoppy on the aroma. Althea is a beer that can be enjoyed by the pint or by the glass!

Bottle from O’Brien’s, Longford [271116]
Amber, clear, big frothy white head
Aroma of tropical fruits, citrus hops, fresh hoppy nose, sharp citrus zest, very fruity, no malt, good nose
Taste of citrus hops, tangy lemon, some bitter grapefruit, tropical fruits, juicy citrus zest, light pale malt background
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, tangy sharp citrus, bit sticky, rather bitter. Finish of sharp citrus zest, bitter citrus fruits
Overall - Very good - I like the light pale malt, there’s too much of this ’balance the hops with malt’ idea with Irish pale ales which end up over malted cramping the vibrancy of the hops. This was far better than the awful Full Sail bottle I had last week (What happened there?)
