Althea is a modern American Pale Ale. Unlike many pale ales, Althea is low on bitterness, yet massively hoppy on the aroma. Althea is a beer that can be enjoyed by the pint or by the glass!

A session IPA? At 4.8%? On the back label it is called an American Pale ale, and that is a lot closer to my findings. Huge quite dense & fine, just yellowish head over hazy golden beer. Lasting lacerings. Citric hops, a bit catty and cheesy both; lunaria, valerian. Some fresh fruit, and just a touch of frying oil in the background. Very dry, clean & crisp greenery/hoppy flavour, medium bitterness, just a point of (citrussy) acidity. Yet somewhere, it is earthy too. Quite light, some slickness, hopoils, tending towards astringency. Long-lasting fresh green hops’ flavours. Refreshing. Very fine, lively carbonation. Quite nice indeed! 7/4/8/4/15

Bottle from Burg, batch 0366 BB 03.03.18, 33 cl sample. Cloudy golden color, short frothy head. Aroma of slight citrussy hop, bit yeasty, bit flowery tea. Soft bitterness, sharp dry yeasty notes. Too much yeast, that made the beer too dry and therefore the bitterness too sharp. Mediocre.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Murky golden body with a thick white head. Lively carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, hay and tangerine. Flavour of orange pith and lemon zest. Thin to medium body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Soft fizz. Sharp and fruity. Nice.

Tap @ Bittles Bar, Belfast, pint shared with Niilstrong. Clear golden color, medium to full sized long lasting white head. Aroma is lightly malts, lovely hoppy, tropical fruits, lightly grapefruit. Awesome! Tastes just as good: hops, fruity, moderately bitter. Very nice! Can easily chug a pint of this.

Draught at pub in Sligo. An incredibly bitter ale that somehow doesn’t linger on the tongue. Nice.

Bottle thanks to Paul. Appearance - golden amber with a decent head. Nose - grapefruit and pine. Taste - more of the same. Plenty of dry resin notes too. Palate - light bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - a good example of the style.
