Brewed in collaboration with Die with your Boots On, a Salem based, family-owned clothing business established in 2018, committed to keep Salem's dark subcultures in fashion as black as their hearts. This German inspired dark lager is single decocted, brewed with cherrywood smoked malt and a blend of Munich, Vienna and roasted specialty malt to showcase a substantial smokiness complemented by a cherry like, stonefruit sweetness in the aroma. Dry on the palate it has a mild roastiness on the front that progresses into a maltiness reminiscent of coffee, dark chocolate and dark toast.

Brighton draught, 4/5/23. Clear deep ruby-cola. Off-white/light beige head is small, well-retained. Very dry, woody smokiness, not salty. Malts seem dry with a hint of toffee on top of brown bread. Cookie, pepper phenols, little in the way of hops, but still balanced and clean. Soft, a bit sweeter than expected up front with a really interesting raisin, prune, vanilla, marshmallow character that slowly moves to dry woodsmoke with bitterness coming from somewhere to very much balance. Grape must, moderate, ashy smoke and maybe even a bit of roasted peanut lingering. Clean, malty, balanced. Super interesting flavor profile here.

Pours deep mahogany into a willi. Tan head with medium retention recedes leaving scant trailing sheets to skim surface. Dark caramel and light smoke aromas. Thin to medium bodied with smoked bacon and wood smoke upfront turning to sweet dark caramel and toasted brown bread in the earthy lasting finish.
