We are thrilled to offer the 12th and final installment of our 2022 Flower Series: Holly. This Belgian Dark Strong Ale is extremely complex and brewers with significant amounts of Belgian candi sugar. Holly features inviting notes of caramel, raisin, dark cherry, and fig; perfect for enjoying with friends on these dark, winter nights.

Reviewed from notes.
Can to tulip.
Appearance: dark brown with what seems to be slight dark purple-ish hues along the sides with a finger's worth of eggshell white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: dark fruity notes, sweet caramel/toffee whiffs, some nuts and dark bread, Belgian sugars? Hmmm, yeah, but really subtle
Flavor: meshes the prior noted aromas to a fine sweet quality; finishes sweet through all those aromas
Texture: medium bodied, leaning into being a sipper; somehow a bit too smooth as I was expecting that "back-of-the-throat" Belgian dryness/grab that didn't occur
Overall: hmmmm, well, where are the Belgian spices I was supposed to get? Seemed pretty non-existent but it's not a bad beer it's just not balanced like a true Belgian Quad.

Canned 12/5/22, drunk 2/3/23. Clear, medium-amber. Small, dark beige head to nothing immediately. Well-aged Belgian yeast with spicy phenols but no harsh clove nor any alcohol. Caramel, fig, plum, raisin for sure. But not too sugary/sweet, it seems. Soft, malty, well-attenuated. Not booze, no crude phenol/ester. Very nicely aged and richly-malted without any excess sugar. Malt reminds of a nice barleywine. Sticky toffee. No booze. This is so well-done. No crude esters/phenols and rich, sumptuous, well-attenuated malts and no booze. What more could you want?
