New and improved Strange Brew in a can. It’s a red cream ale. The body of the beer will be like a lager but have a stronger red ale finish with the new experimental hops ‘HBC-472’ with woody, floral aromas.

Can from Ales by Mail. Pours hazy yellow gold with a thin white head. Aromas of light sweet malt and floral hops. Taste is light sweet, faint hop bite. Not much going on to be honest.

Can at Seven Seasons, Hoxton, London. Pours pale gold with an average sized cream coloured head. Aroma of malt, citrus, grain, caramel, bread and butter, and light floral and grassy notes. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness. Light to medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Not bad.

Slightly unclear pale golden colour, small soapy white head, half-way lasting, light lacing. Modest aroma, pale malts, grain, orange, light caramel. Taste light sweet and bitter, malty, grainy, light orange. Bit more bitter in the aftertaste, spicy and husky notes. Medium body, watery to oily texture, soft carbonation. Decent cream ale (though not really a very special style imo).

Can at home, 20/08/17. Very light haze on a golden pour with a well presented off white head. Nose is pale malts, light citric tickle, grains, bread, hint of vanilla. Taste comprises toasted grains, airy malts, watermelon, grass, light floral whisper. Medium bodied, light spritzy carbonation, semi drying close. Inoffensive but at 5.4% delivers little.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up at the Bottle Shop. Pours mostly clear gold with a creamy, pure white head. Buttery notes in the nose, some doughy malts, hay. Light sweet flavour with further butter, crackers, faint bitter straw, grain husks. Light bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with some yeasty bread, more dough, soft butter, hay, pale grains. It finishes crisper than it starts, which is good. But I’m not sure those buttery notes ought to be there. So so overall.

330ml can. Cloudy, light orangey, bright golden colour with average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Rather neutral, malty aroma, light yeasty spiciness, cautious grassy hoppy overtones, a touch of orange. Taste is slightly citrusy fruity and grassy hoppy, hints of mandarine and orange, pale malty basis, mild yeasty spiciness. OK.
