A sceptre is something normally reserved for the likes of royalty, but we all carry a sceptre – something that makes us special. For this India Pale Lager we combine Pilsner, Vienna and Caramalts with a huge whack of hops to make what we call a Special Lager Beer.

Tap. Sheffield Tap. Hazed, medium gold. Lasting, loose white foam. Nose has fruited loaf malts. Crisp fresh hop. Some pineapple like notes. Taste is fairly bitter, with some sweetness on the lips. Burp inducing, lively carbonation. Lingering bitterness to finish. Decent. Bit fizzy mind.

Can from Beer 52. Appearance - amber with a very generous fluffy head. Nose - pine, grapefruit and light biscuit. Taste - grapefruit again. And surprisingly biscuit again. Almost ginger nut. Palate - light bodied, dry and crunchy through middle and finish. Overall - the base lager seems to be Vienna. Unusual for an Indian Pale Lager style.

Draft at Holborn Whippet. Light amber, small creamy head. Aroma is a mixture of malts, toffe, fruit (Apples?), caramel. Caramel covered apples? Taste starts with sweet, fruity, more of the burnt sugar sweetness following. Mild bite at the finish. Super creamy.
