Our 10th Anniversary blend of Double Barrel Anabasis began in February of 2020 when we racked our English/American Barleywine to Willett 5 year Bourbon Barrels. After 2 years of resting, we moved the mature beer to Blanton's Barrels for a finishing time of 13 more months. After 3 years of resting, concentrating, and developing in oak, we decided on a final blend to share with you. Anabasis is a complex beer which started as a homebrew recipe more than a decade ago and is one of the very few recipes to have never changed. It is all English via its malts and yeast profile, but hopped like an American Barleywine. It takes time and oxidation to round its edges and develop into our flagship Barleywine and fit into the category with its own personality.

LCI. Oak forward, rich dark roasty boozy chocolate. Lots of layers and more as it opens

Rated at The Side Project Cellar. Intense barrel notes, sweet, heavy and slightly syrupy with some chocolate sauce, vanilla, oak and toffee. Quite massive but extremely tasty and complex, nicely balanced. --- Beer merged from original tick of Double Barrel Anabasis - 10 Year (2023) on 07 Nov 2024 at 15:54 - Score: 8. Cellar draught, 9/39/23. Dark, unclear, no head. Nose is...this beer. Heavy, heavy pepper, graphite, lead, etc...some cherry, some vanilla, some light milk chocolate. No booze, low sugar, high spiciness from bourbon, good lord. Spicy as fuck. Graphite, lead, bourbon, rich, dry chocolate. Some oomph but very strong attenuation. Warming bourbon spice in the finish with vanilla and chocolate lingering. Anabasis is a crazy f-ing beer. Still not convinced it's not secretly the best beer out there, though it's a very acquired taste.

Bottle. Pours black with small tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is dark fruit, bourbon, wood, brown sugar. Slick body, chocolate, raisin, bourbon, licorice, wood, nice sweetness, enjoyed this.
