Charlie is a Blonde Barleywine, brewed with Maine-grown Pilsner malts and spring wildflower honey, then aged for 10 months in second-use Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels. Decadent, full-bodied, and luscious, this strong ale presents toffee-like malt sweetness and layered oak character - a complex, velvety sipper. Drink fresh or cellar.

The label online says 2021. At CX, 3/28/24. Moderately hazy, medium-amber. Small, off-white head sits at cover. Sort of worty. I can't imagine there's unfermented wort in here, but that's what it smells like. I guess it's just intense cereal character. Light barrel character (sweet whiskey, hint of floral spice). No booze. Soft, almost juicy with honey and caramel. Tea and spice with a weird tannin and/or bready character. No booze, good body/texture, not too sweet, but there's still something off here...some muted flavors and blandness, possibly from the moderate amount of particulate.

Pours mahogany into a snifter. Soapy tan head with little retention recedes to sicken surface. Molasses, honey and vanilla aromas. Thick with hot caramel, vanilla and pit fruit upfront turning to slick honey and dry oak in the lasting finish. A tad cloying... tastes like an oaked quad.
