Reviewed from notes.
Can to English pint glass.
Appearance: dark brown color with a two finger eggshell white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: deep earthy tones, dark chocolate, sweet wafer-like tones/biscuits, milk chocolate, dark fruity yeasty character and a touch of leather
Flavor: matches the prior noted aromas to a roasty to sweet quality then finishes with the dark chocolate and dark fruity yeast
Texture: light bodied, sessionable, very smooth along the tongue, dry along the tongue and low carb
Overall: I love it! This is what you call an English dark mild ale! This style was meant to be low and I'm glad an American brewer figured that out. Good job with studying some beer history!

Pours a dark brown, verging on black, with smallish tan head. Aroma is roasted grain, burnt toast, a touch of chocolate. Flavors all follow, along with a touch of leather, molasses, maybe a touch of fruit. Clean, crisp mouthfeel, though maybe a touch on the thin side?

Canned 12/27/23, drunk 2/1/24. Very dark with deep garnet highlights. Clear. Large, light-tan head is well-retained. Light toast, lots of mineral-like character. Not overdone on the specialty malt. Fruity yeast (lots of cherry, light apple) and mild chocolate. Very clean. Very dry, thinner than expected, perhaps. Light toast, carbonic acid, soda bread. Clean, and it's not even overly toasty, it's just so...watery, vague, light in flavor. Wow, that is a watery beer with low flavor. Hints of cherry, chocolate, vague minerality. Clean. Needs more maltiness by a large margin.
