Our Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, Boreal was aged in Bourbon barrels for roughly a year to impart warm notes of vanilla, toffee, chocolate, and fig. After bottle conditioning for 2 months, we kept the carbonation true to style and very soft, for an incredibly smooth and decadent finish.

Nitro tap at the brewery, 1/14/24. Dark. Light-tan head, staunchly atop. Creamy milk chocolate, raisin, hints of bourbon spice. I suspect the nitrogen is dulling and softening the nose excessively. Probably wouldn't guess this was barrel aged, sadly, though it's not alcoholic or sugary. Just mostly chocolate, vanilla and light roast. Some bourbon spice with strong whiskey and a watery, nitro body doing it no benefit. Good flavors of graham cracker, cacao, chocolate and vanilla but just so loose and watery, in stark contrast to the spicy bourbon. Feels wet and soggy. This is the second time in a few months I've seen a brewery do their specialty BA impy on nitro, much to its detriment. Don't do that! Nitro is good for low abv beers, not big ones.
