Forbidden Root is splendid with full-flavored or spicy foods from Yankee pot roast to Kansas City-style ribs to California tri-tip on the grill.

Smell has a little bit of sassafras to it, but then a note of malt and spice, kind of like an English brown ale. Then the nose picks up some roasty stout malt as well. Beer in the glass is cloudy brown, with a root-beery layer of foam. Taste is a bit tart and yeasty. I get some root beer to it, but there are a lot more spices. A bit of watery mouthfeel. I am going to seek this out on tap and hope to get a better impression.

12oz bottle. Really different. Root beer, cinnamon flavors all the way, of the more natural sort I suppose, but really has a ton going in terms of herbal tones. The base beer is thin, sweet, pretty weak for a beer really, but it suits the style here well enough. There really is a fascinating depth of botanical action. Oak, vanilla smooth it all out. Worth a try, good for a tasting, not really something I’d want to drink much of though. Certainly unique.

Dark brown with a medium sized tan head. Aroma and flavors of a well made root beer that is malty, some chocolate and vanilla
A nice, clean beer.
