A robust, yet surprisingly refreshing porter, Mud Puppy is a favorite of dark beer lovers. Characterized by a thick, rocky head and luscious chocolate-like nose, the malty profile is balanced by liberal hopping for its style

Can from vintage estates. Smell is a somewhat volatile stronger malt. Initially, there is just a little carbonation, not quite flat. Pours big and black with a fading choco moose head. Taste comes across stronger than the near 6% listed here. Old partially burn charred damp campfire wood flavor. Not bad, should have chilled it a little more.

Unknown source, possibly Virby44 or Mike’s Liquors in Ely. Brown with a foamy, light beige head. Not much of an aroma: a little bit of licorice, vague dark chocolate. Overall though: AWOL. Taste is bittersweet and that nice balance of roasted bitterness and sweet milk chocolate is the highlight. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Not bad.

355ml can. Pours a clear brown with ruby hue and a large, creamy, long lasting, tan head that laces. Mild, sweet aroma of toasted caramel malt, dark chocolate, light coffee and ash. Semi-sweet flavour of roasted malt, ash, dark chocolate, earth, light caramel and bitter coffee in a dry, slightly acidic, hoppy finish. Light body with a watery texture and average carbonation. Pretty simple, but not bad.
