I definitely see what they're going for here. Pores a thick caramel slightly cloudy pour with a sheet of head and lacing. Nose is nice and bready, you can get some of the esters. Taste, you can see the tripel they were going for, with a dense mildly syrup-sweet bready malt with a little ester, a vague wave of booze. And here is the twist, a hoppiness. Not strong, but a little resin, but mostly bitter on the finish. Love the idea, but the hop finish is off, leaning more bitter than needed. Something more perfumy, or pine would have served better. Bottle from the LCBO. Cloudy orange amber under a large lingering off white head that leaves some tight lace. Nose is pineapple, orange peel, resin, yeast, caramel, bread, a light funk and some spice. Light+ toffee sweetness with a medium- tropical fruit bitterness with a medium- tartness and a touch of spice through the finish. Mouth is medium with average carbonation. Leans more to the fruity Belgian side rather than the IPA side, but good. 7+/4-/7/3/14
