Tap @ the brewery. Pours beautiful redbrown with a little offwhite head and with small bubbles heading for the surface. Aroma of smoke, caramel, oakk, vanilla. Taste is smoke first and foremost, then fruit like apples, oak, whiskey, caramel, vanilla, and some alchohol. Medium body, soft lively carbonation. Very good one. 270211

Tap at the Avery tasting room. Pours dark reddish amber with a creamy beige head. Aroma difficult to pin down. Medium body/mild carbonation. No heat in the mouth, but it did affect my throat. Very smooth. Lightly sweet. Not sticky. Smoky fruit flavor? Nah. Smoked something though. Makes me think of bacon. Getting a little vanila/oak. This is rather subtle stuff-takes time to develop. Very, very good.

On tap. Pours with a hazed amber body and an off-white head. Aroma of leather, smoke, applewood smoked bacon, candied stuff, and brandy. Flavors are of candied apple wood smoked bacon, maple, caramel and goodness. Smooth and big mouthfeel, surprisingly lively carbonation.

Tap at Avery - five bucks for four ounces! - why the hell did I buy this!? - anyway, I am guessing that this is the Big Smoky aged in whiskey barrels - this was pretty hard to drink - not terrible, just tough to get down - very syrupy sweet and sticky - moderate wood - vanilla and whiskey amplify the sweetness - the alcohol, residual sugars and whiskey all cover up most of the smokiness, so it pretty much just manifests as a kind of burnt marshmallow flavor - alcohol burns the tongue - meh.
