The first vintage of Hardy's in 1968 was inspired by the classic 19th century English Barley Wines and was matured in oak barrels.

“The Historical” is a tribute to this time-honoured tradition. The 2024 edition was aged for months with French oak wood, which releases its typical roasted and spicy notes, rounding up the warm and sweet aromas of the classic Thomas Hardy’s Ale.

250ml bottle. An amber/orange/red coloured pour with a thinnish off white head on top which doesn't hang about. Sweet, malty, orange marmalade, caramel, oak taste and aroma. Sweet, boozy, rich tasting sipper, a really enjoyable barley wine.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Hazy amber/ruby body with a thin off-white head. Low carbonation. Patchy lacing. Aroma of raisin, prune, marzipan, orange zest and oak. Flavour of leather, honey, cherry and crystallised orange. Medium to full body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. A beautifully balanced, well rounded beer.

250ml bottle, No. 01088, vintage 2024, 11.3 % abv, bought at Vinmonopolet Langnes. Good looking in the glass with its deep palisander coloured body under a covering, beige head leaving scattered lacing behind. Promising, semi-sweet caramel malts on the nose, earthy. Well balanced taste of caramel, almond, oak, and dried fruits. Prolonged ending. Smooth and mouthfilling. A really nice one, enjoyed on a Friday eve. (Tromsø, 26.07.2024)

Flaska från SB. Bärnstensfärgad lite kladdig vätska utan skum. Söt och fsyltigt ruktig doft torkade päron, gula russin, sockerkaka dränkt i något sött vitt dessertvin. Riktigt fin till en krämig dessertost. Gott
