It was amazing having Doug from Odell Brewing Co Odell Brewing with us last week! Together, we recreated a batch of Odell’s flagship Amber Ale, 90 Shilling, on the Thornbridge Union system. First brewed in 1989, this iconic beer has been a cornerstone of the US craft beer scene ever since.

Bottled 90 Shilling has a higher ABV of 6.3% than the Cask version which has an ABV of 5.3

OBF XV. Amber colour, small head. Aroma is caramel, some toasted and mild toffee tones with wooden elements. Flavour is quite similar. One dimensional, and not all too complex.

Bottled at PBF. Clear pale brown, small head. Toasty nose with some hay. Dry with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Crisp bread, a bit of caramel and tobacco. Mid bitter finish. Rustic, yet elegant.

Pale copper colour, small off-white head. Sweetish malts, light nuts, neutral nose. Light-bodied. Sweetish malts, mentholy hops, overall pleasant easy brew. PBF XV.

Bottle from the Thornbridge online store. Aromas of toffee, dried fruits, caramel, red apple. Malty taste of toffee apple, caramel, more dried fruit. Malty sweet with a distant bitter twist.

50cl bottle at home. From Alko.
Poured deep amber in color, white head. Toast and caramel malty aroma. Notes of red berries/fruits. Malty with noticeable hop bitterness.

Bottle at home picked up from Thornbridge online. A mostly clear chestnut amber red coloured pour with a lasting loose beige head. Aroma is semi sweet, burnt toffee, butterscotch, dates, dried fruits, light smoke, dried apple. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, layered malts, butterscotch, toffee, light smoke, dried fruits, dates, raisin, toasted nuts, twiglets. Palate is semi sweet, rounded, fine moderate carbonation. Really nice malty drop.

Cask at The Colmore; dark clear copper pour, with a creamy off white head, aroma has caramel, taste is heavy malts, some biscuit, light bitterness, good stuff

Bottle 90 Shilling On The Union, 6.3%. A beautiful, red-brown beer, a head is medium and light beige. Aroma has caramel, light pine. Taste has caramel and pine, some light and fresh fruitness in the background. Medium bodied. Pretty nice.

Bottled at 6.3% - Should be different listings... Large foamy off white head on a copper coloured body. Toffee, & sweets aroma. Medium bodied, foamy soft & cloying. Berries, toffee, caramel, malt & stone fruit tastes with a tangy citrus finish. Lovely drinker.
