Pours brown, looks very dark brown in the glass with an average sized but quite dense and very stable off-white, slightly yellowish head; very nice lacing. The aroma shows a quite prominent (per style) roasted malts character, with notes of coffee plus lighter suggestions of chocolate and licorice. There's a bit of soft maltiness in the back with a hint of cola-like character and maybe a bit of nuttiness. Taste notes follow the aroma quite closely, with maybe a slight hint of herbal/balsamic hoppiness. As the aroma suggested, it's quite pronounced on the roasted component for the style but still soft/simple enough. Good sweet/bitter balance in the mouth and a slightly bitter, delicately dry finish. Light to medium bodied with carbonation a tad below average; easily drinkable. Overall: maybe not impressive, but hits the right spots a black lager should hit. A fine one.

Tap @Luppolo Station in Rome-Italy. Chestnut skin pour, ivory foam leaving drafts. Nose: mild milky feel, roast, hint of grass. Mouth: soft cappuccino, leads to that in fact. Well-brewed all-in-all but really in style?
