Since “Willy” is so versatile and can be flavored with fruits and essences, we add a touch of vanilla extract to compliment the sweet nuttiness. Also good mixed with Captain Stout, a blend we call “The Captain and Vanil.”

Bottle. A- Mold, pond water, subtle vanilla. A- Golden color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Vanilla, slightly nutty, wheat. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, bland finish. O- I wanted this because I’ve had luck with some really tasty vanilla wheat beers and this being from Alpine I figured it had to be great. I was wrong. This smelled awful. A weird earthy unnatural smell. The taste was okay. Some vanilla but not much flavor going on. This really needs some work.

Draught @ Alpine Beer Co, Alpine, CA

Pours yellowish with a smooth head. Aroma of vanilla, citrus and mild wheaty notes. Taste is heavy with vanilla notes and sweetish notes. Finish is slightly stuffy and wheaty with some vanilla. A vanilla overdose.

Draught @ the brewpub, Alpine. Aroma has vanilla and nothing else. Flavour has sweet vanilla, some hayish malt and mild fruitiness. Finishes milky. A bit watery. Better than basic version but nothing much still.

On tap at Alpine, pours clear pale golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out loads of vanilla, and subtler lemony notes. Flavour is similar, with loads of vanilla atop lemony and citrusy notes. Pretty refreshing - the vanilla adds a nice element to the base beer. Solid stuff.

Sample at the brewpub. Cloudy yellow pour with a thin white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing. Vanilla and malt in the nose. Light body with flavors of sweet vanilla, malt and wheat. The finish is sweet vanilla cream soda aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft - Vanilla and wheat. Pale clear yellow with a thin head. Huge vanilla and a wheat finish. Although they warn you this is soda like, it is hard to believe. Light, refreshing and fun but not beer. I would still drink it anyways. --- Beer merged from original tick of Willy on 06 Aug 2013 at 11:59 - Score: Appearance - 4 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 4 | Overall - 6. Original review text: Draft - Wheat, apples and mild yeast. Pale yellow with a thin head. Light lemon, wheat, pear and a medium body. Although this is supposed to be light I find it a tad heavy on flavour and on my palate.
