Poured into an English pub glass, the appearance was a murky dark brown close to black. Finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated immediately. Sliding lace.
The aroma is earthy, grainy, burnt to roasty, some toast, coffee grounds and burnt cocoa beans. Cooked dark fruits.
The flavor has a rugged cooked malty semi-sweet earthiness to it. Dark fruits present that cooked taste, hmmmmm....the aftertaste is the same and lingers on in the finish.
On the palate, it was light to medium bodied with an okay sessionability about it, if one can look past the cooked dark fruitiness. Decent carbonation.
Overall, something about this beer makes me not want to come back to. I mean I don’t mind the English styles, but if an American brewer tries their hand at one, please do it clean and correct. I really don’t see myself coming back to this.

650 mL bottle purchased at Greg & Jane’s Epping, NH. Pours a dark brown with full frothy head. Aroma is earthy grain, weak roast, nuts and soil.
Not bottling date any place on the bottle or label. The flavor was OK except for a slight off sour note in the finish. Mild roast with an earthy grain though out the sip. Body and carbonation level are good. However, the sour note makes it almost undrinkable. It throws off the entire balance of the beer.

Bottle from Bert’s Deep brown with the faintest of garnet at the edges and a bubbly tan head that slowly recedes to a cap on top. Chocolate roast and smoke with an earthy hop edge. Light caramel fruit and ash. Nice bold porter, a bit on the smokey side for my tastes, but well made.
