Taster pour at Powder Keg Beer and Chili Festival. Appearance is fairly clear light brown with no sparkle, finger-width creamy off-white head with light lacing. Aroma is faint juicy hops, rye, light bread/grains. Taste is rye spiciness, bitter, citrus, sugary sweetness toward end. Palate is light-to-medium bodied, thin texture, soft carbonation and mix of sweet and mild bitter with rye finish as taste. Overall, an easy drinker with some balance but fairly average.

650 ml bottle. A touch high on the carbonation level. Aroma is big rye, weak citrus and spent grain. Flavor has the spicy rye as the base of the beer. Some caramel backing that barely gives any sweetness. The citrus is over run by the assertive rye grain. Overall, overly spicy. The caramel malt and citrus hops don’t do much in the way to balance. Yeah, let’s just say I’m not running out to get more from Swift Current.

Bottle from Bert’s slightly hazy deep amber color with a decent sized off white head. Caramel and toffee maltiness is quite strong making this a bit on the sweet side. The hop profile is overwhelmed by the spiciness from the rye malt. What is in here is somewhat grassy and astringent. A bit of sherry like oxidation is in here as well. This one needs some work.
