750 ml growler filled at the brewery 3 days prior. Golden color with an amber hue. Aroma is milled grain, clementine zest, grapefruit rind and the lightest herbal hint.
Pretty interesting and creative to brew a double IPA without using any of the current popular hop varieties. The center has a milled grain base with just a little sweetness. ( just enough to have some balance) The most dominant flavor I get is grapefruit or a clementine/ citrus zest flavor. The bitterness is bold and leaves your palate with no doubt your drinking a Imperial IPA. Assertive bitterness lingers well after the sip. I spilt the growler 2 ways and drain it rather easy.
Overall I love how the Brewer used a recipe without using the more common varieties of hops. However, I will say after about 7 oz. the bitterness really rides the borderline of abrasive. I like fresh bright hop bitterness so it’s not a huge negative.
