The world’s first mountain cog railway reached the summit of New Hampshire’s Mount Washington in 1869. The rack and pinion design allows the train to climb steep grades. Cogway IPA is our American IPA which highlights hoppy bitterness balanced by a subtle malt sweetness. Cogway features a citrusy bouquet from an ample amount dry hopping.

Bottle (dated 12/9/14--a little old) pour into nonic pint glass. Aroma is floral hops over bready malt and hint of pine. Appearance is hazy orange-brown with 1/2-finger width head which dissipates quickly and trace lacing with no sparkle. Taste is dominant floral sweetness over malts. Palate is medium bodied with slick texture and above average carbonation and mix of mild sweet/bitter lasting finish. Overall, the floral character dominates and this is not terribly bitter, which appeals to me. Those looking for more bitter or resin/citrus should turn elsewhere.

on tap. Darker with a slight haze. Wew, first impression is quite strong. Astringent is the word tonight. Mouth coating ipa fer sure and it gets terribly on style as the session continues. Very astringent aftertaste.

Bottled 10/27/14... so almost 4 months old... Pours deep amber into a tulip. Off-white head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Sour, stale biscuit aromas. Dry with rotted dark fruit, stale licorice, and chocolate covered manure. As others have observed, I should have checked freshness - this stuff does not age well... and it must take a steep dive, because this was nasty...

Draft sample @ the brewery. Amber color with brown hue. Light retention. Bold earthy malt and herbal hop aroma. Sweet malt balances the earthy floral hope bite. Mouthfeel has a very dry texture. Kind of average IPA, the nice thing about it is the Earthy malt and spice element. Best if you’re able to visit the brewery or a REAL fresh bottle.

Bottle from Bert’s Pours a murky deep golden color with a smallish off white head that quickly dissipates to a ring and leaves some spotty lace on the way down. Heavy bready caramel malt aroma offset with spicy, floral, citrusy hop aroma. Light plastic phenols in the aroma as well. The taste follows the aroma. Sweet caramel malt base with a smattering of hops and a light plastic phenol and hints of astringency. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. Decent brew, but nothing to write home about. A little sweet and the plastic doesn’t help.
