4 oz. taster @ the brew pub. Color is murky brown with a black center. Lasting retention in the glass. The aroma is dominated by hop character; herbal, pine notes with a hint of citrus notes. Nice dry hop notes!
Flavor upfront is bitter citrus over a dirty malt base, transitioning into a mild pine bitterness that gives way to cocoa and roast chocolate malt. The finish is lightly floral at first then it lingers for a bit giving moderate flavors of pine. This really is borderline a Black IPA but the pilsener yeast gives it a lighter body with a crispness. The brewer gave this brew an appropriate it is indeed bizarre but it still kind of works if you like hop forward beers. Rather drinkable.
