22 oz. bottle, from my local Market Basket at a cheap $3.99. Aroma is bready and yeasty with traces of floral hops. Standard caramel and English toffee type malts.

Medium in body with a lightly creamy texture. Flavor is spot on for the style. Very classic APA. Lots of biscuit and yeast upfront with hints of honey and caramel malt. The hops are light with a light, mild floral bitterness.

Overall this is the type of Pale Ale many people were drinking 15 - 20 years ago. Very standard with out any real surprises. The name of this brew is appropriate and would please the causal beer drinker. Even if this is out dated in terms of what craft breweries are creating today, it’s still a well made classic example.

The appearance has a somewhat clear copper colored body with a one finger white foamy head that dies to a nice film coating the top of the body. Thick foamy lacing clings smartly to the sides of the glass.
The smell has some toasty biscuit malt, a little bit of caramel, toffee all combined and coming through in an earthy sort of mild grassy scent but smells really good. There is nothing off putting.
The taste is mainly sweet through the toasty biscuit malt. There is a sweet sticky aftertaste with a quick dry sweet finish.
On the palate, it sits about a light to medium on the body, comes across mostly sessionable. Carbonation is extremely smooth for an APA.
Overall, this is a pretty well done Pale Ale, but there’s a part of me that says it just might be closer to a sessionable English Pale Ale. No worries, still worthy of getting again if I lived in its distro. I do sense some fish and chips that would go well with this.

Pours deep gold into a snifter. Bright white head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Sour caramel aromas. Dry with sour caramel and earthy hops front to back.

Bottle from Bert’s So as I understand it the Common Man in Windham NH had a few too many electrical fires so the fire dept shut them down for a bit which left Smuttynose with a bit too much of their beer, that they apparently sent into distribution. 3.50 for a bomber and I am a happy customer! Pours a crystal clear medium golden color with a huge fluffy bone white head that persists forever. Aromas of caramel and bready malt with a bit of earthy hop to counter and a hint of mineral water. The flavor is huge on the caramel and bready malt with bits of sulfur and mineral. Moderate earthy hops and a hint of butterscotch round out the flavor. Medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Old school pale ale, that I rather enjoyed. I’ve probably had this before at the restaurant, but nice to sit down and really evaluate it.
