Take a break from the Sturm und Drang of modern life, with this elegant, refreshing pilsner. Our brewers created Vunderbar! with both feet grounded in tradition, focusing on authentic German pilsner malt and spicy Czech Saaz hops. The result just might get you to shimmy into your favorite lederhosen, bust into a quick schuhplattler and loudly proclaim, “Das ist Vunderbar!”

Bottle. Hazy yellow color with a big, frothy, white head. Wonderful hoppy aroma, grassy and floral with some citric notes and a bit of bready malt. Flavor starts with some sweetish malt, slightly bready, then turns drier with hay and a moderately bitter finish with pleasant grassy hoppiness. Light to medium-bodied. A great Pilsener, really fresh and refreshing. Israeli summer could have been much easier to handle if I had a case of this.

Bottle from Half Time. Pours slightly hazy light gold with a slight white head. Aroma is mildly bready with herb/grass/citrus mild hop. Med body. Flavor is hoppier than the aroma suggest. Pale malt, quite clean, with a bready touch. For me it is quite bitter - likely noble considering the Saaz, but I can’t easily put a word to it. Grassy is probably close. It drinks very nicely. It’s really good.

Draft, Barley Pub on May 31, 2012. Served in a standard pint. Lots of carbonation, more than it should have. Big Saaz hoppy nose with some straw. Taste is grassy hop punch with sweet malt. Really well made German Pils. Floral aromas as it warms. Medium body and real crisp with an slightly more hoppy presence then most of the style. Higher end.

On tap at the Amesbury Ale House. Pours a light and slightly cloudy straw color with a smallish bone white head that shows some great determination. Smells of sweet malts and lots of spicy earthy hops. Hints of honey and sweet malts with a bit of a lemony tartness. Taste follows the smell fairly well. Lots of earthy floral hops piled on top of a mild sweet malty base. Medium body and level of carbonation with a sweet almost tart mouthfeel. Nice pilsener I really enjoyed this. Light refreshing and a bit hoppy.
