Cask at the Standing Order. Pours clear yellow gold with a thin white head. Aromas of light tropical fruit and grapefruit. Taste is more of the same. Decent bitter finish.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A straw coloured pour with a thin white head; the aroma has pine resin and grapefruit zest; oily in the mouth with chewy bitter hops that burn the lips; then a long persistent bitter finish with some sweet malts.

Well named this one ! Hops dominate it from start to finish, and luckily they are bitter hops, not ones that taste of citrus or tropical fruits. Anyway, cask (gravity) at Standing Order, Derby. Pours golden yellow with minimal off-white head (but substantially dark than shown in the Wethersppons festival brochure !).Bitter hops swamp the aroma. In the mouth there is a very brief burst of sweetness before juicy hoppiness comes thundering in. Plenty of pine resin too, and later on hints of grapefruit and oranges leading to a dry finish. This is rather nice – and more like an IPA than a golden ale IMO.
