Poured into a pilsener glass, the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a two finger off white foamy head that sat atop for a little bit and then gently slid off. Spotty lace.
The aroma had some dark roasted malts, light bitter chocolate nibs, toast, some dark bread, some woody dryness and a little bit of earthiness.
The flavor leaned towards the roastiness at first and gently allowed some sweet to bitter chocolate portions. Finely tuned roastiness rolled into the aftertaste and on into the finish.
The palate was about medium bodied, perhaps just a touch under with a pretty good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine.
Overall, I somewhat liked this for me, but also missed the German yeastiness I normally get in this style. Maybe again for me, though. Schwarzbier fans, don’t get your hopes up with this one.

Poured from can deep mahogany brown with a 2 finger tan head. Aromas of sweet chocolate and burnt malt. Taste is similar to aroma with a lingering burnt hint.

A deep dark brown schwarze with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a sweet earthy chocolate malt with murky notes. In mouth, a faint chicory and chocolate with boiled chick peas, mineral notes, so-so. On tap at Barcade Brooklyn, Dec. 30 2011.
